Located in Warren County on the southeast corner of the Des Moines Metro, Carlisle truly embodies small-town Iowa living while offering access to big city amenities. According to the 2020 US Census, the population of Carlisle was 4,160. The 2022 ACS 5-Year Estimates report indicates that Carlisle has 1,694 housing units, a median income of $94,214, and a median age of 37.7.

 

According to the Des Moines Area Association of REALTORS, the median sale price of the 73 homes sold in Carlisle in 2023, as of this writing, was $271,700 and featured 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, and 1,411 square feet of above-grade living space, making Carlisle an affordable community to call home. The town boasts a thriving Chamber of Commerce that supports numerous shops, restaurants, and businesses. 

 

Situated at the intersection of Hwy 5 and Hwy 65, both of which are divided 4-lane highways, commuting to and from Carlisle is convenient, with a median commute time to work of just 22.4 minutes. The town is also positioned along an active Class 1 railway known as the 'Spine Line,' operated by the Union Pacific Railroad, making it an appealing location for industry and manufacturing. 

 

The Carlisle Community School District comprises a preschool, 2 elementary schools, 1 middle school, and 1 high school, serving a total of 2,328 students with a student-teacher ratio of 17:1. 

 

Recreation opportunities abound in and around Carlisle. Residents have easy access to various waterways, including the North River flowing through town, the Middle River on the south edge, and the Des Moines River on the east side. Additionally, Avon Lake is located on the north side of town, and destinations like Easter Lake, Banner Lakes at Summerset State Park, and Lake Red Rock are just short drives away. The Summerset Trail, spanning 11 miles from Carlisle to Indianola, is popular for biking, hiking, and walking.
