Are you looking to make your garage a more organized, quiet, and efficient space? I’ve recently discovered some exciting upgrades that can help. Check out these ideas, and feel free to share your recommendations!
Upgrade Your Hinges
If you're like me, you probably haven’t given much thought to the hinges on your overhead garage door. Surprisingly, they play a vital role in maintaining your garage's insulation and functionality.
Have you ever noticed air leaking around your door seals on windy days? The culprit might be wind pushing the door inward, breaking the seal. I found a solution: replacement hinges from
Green Hinge Systems. These hinges come with built-in springs to keep your door tightly sealed, even on gusty days. Swapping them out looks simple and could be a great DIY project.
While upgrading your hinges, consider replacing those noisy steel rollers. I discovered nylon rollers from
Dura-Lift, which promise a quieter experience. From what I’ve heard, the noise reduction is substantial!
Simplify Parking
Parking perfectly in the garage can be a challenge. I’ve always struggled to position the car close to the door for maximum space near the house. Sometimes, I park too far back, and the garage door ends up hitting the bumper—frustrating!
Although there are products that attach to the floor, like parking mats, I’ve avoided them because they can be tripping hazards or require extra cleaning. Instead, I’ve found two excellent alternatives:
-
Fosmon Dual Laser Garage Parking Assistant: This system uses lasers to guide you to park in the exact spot every time. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work for me because we back into the garage, and the lasers would be blocked by the open garage door.
-
STKR Adjustable Garage Parking Sensor: This sensor is perfect for backing in! It mounts on the wall and is visible in the rearview mirror, alerting you when you’ve reached the right spot. Problem solved!
Maximize Organization
Keeping the garage floor clear is my golden rule. I use various systems to keep things off the floor while ensuring easy access:
-
Rubbermaid FastTrack System: I’ve relied on this system for years, and it’s been a game-changer. It supports heavy items and offers versatile accessories for hanging tools, bikes, and more. Your garage stays neat and clutter-free!
-
Overhead Garage Storage Racks from
SafeRacks: I’ve installed these racks above my garage doors to store seasonal items like holiday decorations. Using
Sterilite Storage Totes, I can keep these items out of the way and only access them a few times a year.
-
Harken Hoister for Canoe Storage (or for storing other large items): As someone with a self-proclaimed canoe problem (I have four hanging from my ceiling and a few more elsewhere!), the
Harken Hoister is an incredible system. It makes lifting and storing large items effortless, leaving your garage space functional and organized.
Final Thoughts
I hope these upgrades inspire you to transform your garage into a more pleasant and functional space. Whether it’s sealing your door, quieting noisy rollers, or improving organization, small changes can make a big difference.
If you have any suggestions for garage upgrades or organizational tips, I’d love to hear them!
