March Madness Home Edition: Who Won?
This week, I'm eating crow. A couple of months back, my Office Director, Zara, suggested we run a March Madness Home Edition. When we debated which architectural styles to include, I confidently predicted that log homes wouldn't make it past the first round. Given that most of my readers are from Iowa, I assumed log homes wouldn't be their top pick.

But in last week's final round of polling, log homes were tied with Arts and Crafts. We sent out an email, urging readers to vote and break the tie. The response was overwhelming, with almost everyone voting for log homes. Final results? 84% for log homes, and a mere 16% for Arts and Crafts.

Before you label me a log home hater, let me clarify: I don't have anything against them. I just tend to be practical. Log homes have a romantic appeal, sure. They're beautiful, with their high ceilings, open layouts, and cozy fireplaces. But let's not ignore the elephant in the room: maintenance.

Maintaining a log home is no walk in the park. I look at my own deck, and I know the effort it takes to keep it looking good. Now imagine an entire house made of wood—constant staining, caulking, and upkeep.

So, dear readers, did you get caught up in the fantasy? The idea of a serene life by the lake, surrounded by nature? But let's face it, reality bites. Living in a log home means less fishing, more staining.

But fear not, when you're ready to trade in that log home dream for something simpler, I'll be here to help you sell it. You're welcome.
