Warren County, Iowa is a wonderful place to live. It is conveniently located just south of the Greater Des Moines Metro, which allows for living in and near small rural communities while having short commute times into the city.
The County Seat is Indianola, located in the center of the county. Simpson College is located here and often hosts cultural events, performances, and lectures open to the public. The Des Moines Metro Opera in Indianola provides a curated series of concerts, lectures, art shows, film screenings, and unique performance collaborations.
Norwalk, located in the northwest corner of the county is a suburb of the Greater Des Moines Metropolitan Area. Norwalk is the fastest-growing community in Warren County, but is consistently ranked as one of Iowa's safest cities. Residents typically know their neighbors and enjoy a great quality of life with low crime, and phenomenal schools.
There are many other smaller communities throughout the county including Ackworth, Bevington, Carlisle, Cumming, Hartford, Lacona, Martensdale, Milo, New Virginia, Sandyville, Spring Hill, and St. Marys. The cities of Des Moines and West Des Moines extend into Warren County as well.
Warren County is perfect for agriculture. There is a mixture of row crops, livestock, fruit, and vegetables. The land and climate are suitable for growing grapes, which has made this area an exporter of grapes.
The landscape in Warren County is beautiful with rolling hills, ponds, and rivers providing many recreational resources. There are lots of opportunities for hunting, fishing, trapping, camping, hiking, bicycling, and canoeing in this county. There are numerous County Parks as well as Lake Ahquabi State Park and Banner Lakes at Summerset State Park.
The area is rich in history and the Warren County Historical Society is a great place to start your search.
Warren County is the Hot Air Balloon capital of the Midwest. The 9-day National Balloon Classic attracts balloonists from all over the world. The National Balloon Museum displays 200 years of hot air balloon history.
These are just some of the reasons why life in Warren County is so wonderful.
